{Hannah}:25 weeks & a beach vacation

We went to Galveston (Jamaica Beach) with my family this weekend and we had a great time! My parents rented a 4 bedroom beach house and we all got to enjoy it! We got there Thursday and left this morning. While we were there, we took Ethan to the beach 5 times (it was walkable from our beach house), as well as to the strand, the movie theater (his first one! We saw the Minions movie, it was okay), and a small park nearby. We relaxed a lot, and I loved seeing him get to interact with his grandparents, uncles and aunt for several days. Because Austin has to save his PTO for his "paternity leave", he was only able to come for the weekend, but we made some awesome memories with daddy while he was there!

We have lots more pictures on Facebook, but these are from our DSLR. The only editing we did was to crop the maternity shot below (Austin got an umbrella in the frame). My computer just can't handle running my editing software right now, anyway - it can hardly handle the blog!

And now for some Hannah Rosalie!

How far along? 25 weeks - 15 to go, two weeks left in the second trimester! (WHOO HOO!)
Maternity clothes? Yes!
Stretch marks? Not yet
Sleep: I shared a room with Ethan for the last four nights, and a smaller-than-usual bed... so, pretty ok?
Miss anything? Not having heartburn, not taking a pill every day. When I forget, the consequences last for DAYS.
Movement: Lots! You can now see it from outside, and shes navigating a little higher. This does make it appropriate for others to feel but... I am still not a fan of the belly-touching.
Food cravings: Anything that won't make me feel bloated
Anything making you queasy or sick? Nothing aside from the bloating, the heartburn... I mean, who knew bananas could give you heartburn? I have GOT to remember to take my pills. Hard to do when I can't remember anything anymore.
Gender: Girl!
Labor Signs: None
Belly Button in or out? In
Wedding rings on or off? On
Happy or Moody most of the time? A little mood-swingy today. It's been a long day.
Looking forward to: Dr appointment tomorrow, hearing her heartbeat. NOT looking forward to Gestational Diabetes test in a few weeks.
Prayers this week: Praying again this week that the Lord would work in me to overcome bad "habits" that I don't want to pass on to my children.

I'm sort of happy to be home, but mostly sad that vacation is over. We had so much fun! Can we go back now?

{Hannah}: 24 Weeks

I thought October 31st was a Sunday - I completely convinced myself of it - so I told myself I would post on Sundays. Theoretically it's a good idea anyway because it's the only day I'm guaranteed to wear makeup (church!). But I just checked, and that's wrong. Ha!

I am losing my mind, you guys. I think this is about the time I lost it with Ethan, too: one day, I made it all the way to work without shoes. This time, I walked to our mailbox and left the keys in it while I walked a block away and played at the park with Ethan for half an hour. I sprinted back to the mailbox with Ethan in his wagon when I realized what I did. Pregnancy brain is no joke.

I also feel enormous lately.

I'm uncomfortable more often, have to recline when I sit (she's hanging out really low 90% of the time) and having a hard time finishing normal-sized meals as my stomach's space gets more and more restricted.

Hannah is moving more than ever, and it's probably the most fun point in the pregnancy as far as getting to feel her move. As she gets bigger and space gets tighter, she definitely won't be doing as many flips! I have been having some Braxton Hicks contractions, which are fairly uncomfortable but really nothing compared to real labor. Just enough to make me wince. Usually, drinking water or walking around helps me get over them!

How far along? 24 weeks - 16 to go!
Maternity clothes? Yes!
Stretch marks? Not yet
Sleep: Pretty good - waking up to roll over and all that.
Miss anything? Unlimited caffeine.
Movement: Lots! Especially when I sit still :)
Food cravings: Cheese! My workouts are curbing the donut hole cravings!
Anything making you queasy or sick? Food in general, because I keep forgetting how little I can fit in my stomach.
Gender: Girl!
Labor Signs: None
Belly Button in or out? In
Wedding rings on or off? On
Happy or Moody most of the time? Mostly happy but taking everything everyone says to heart. Not always good.
Looking forward to: Galveston with my family (parents, brothers, sister-in-law) in 4 days!
Prayers this week: was reminded this week from some old noted to pray for specific parts of Hannah's growth & development - there are so many vital things happening at once, it's amazing!

Feeling so blessed to be on this hourney with Hannah, even when it's not easy, pretty, or fun. (Excuse me while I go take a Tums.)

Bow & Headband Organizer - DIY

We don't do a lot of DIY explanations on here. Frankly, I think most things have been covered, and I'm really not the best at remembering to take "process" photos (where I take pictures of each step). I always think of my 2nd grade class writing "how-to" papers on How To Make an Ice Cream Sundae. After we wrote our essays, our teacher scooped each of us a sundae using the essays we'd written -- if the directions were clear enough to actually make one! Some kids never got the ice cream scoop out, so the ice cream couldn't be scooped! I won't go into that much detail here ("dig through your garage for the drill and drill bits, and bring them into the house..."), but that activity clearly left a lasting impression. I'll do my best not to leave you without a bowl for your sundae. ;)

I got a great deal on some headbands for Hannah recently, and when they arrived I realized that I didn't want to stick them in a drawer and see them tangled/disorganized, so I searched Pinterest & Etsy for solutions. Frankly, I would've been willing to buy one of these things, but most on Etsy were on $40, and I couldn't envision paying so much for something to organize headbands that weren't worth anywhere near that!

Supplies
- Open picture frame
(I used an 11x14 from Hobby Lobby. It came without the glass or backing, and was $15 at 50% off, which is a sale they frequently run)
- Ribbon.
I used 3 different kinds of 2 slightly different widths. I chose natural and gold accents to match the gold hooks. ($4.80 for 3 rolls on sale at Hobby Lobby and Michael's)
- Hooks
I bought 100 gold hooks in the screws aisle (they will screw into the frame) at Home Depot for about $3.50.
- Hot glue & gun
- Scissors
- Drill & drill bit
- Measuring tape
{total cost to me: $23.30}
If you don't have some of the other equipment, it may cost a bit more up front, but the investment in those tools is a good one for any craft-er!

I first measured and cut the ribbons to the length of the opening. I wanted them to be precisely the length of the frame, from top corner to bottom corner of the lip of the opening so I could tuck them into hot glue and make sure they would stay. (More pictures of that below.)

Though the frame fits an 11x14" image, the outside edge was 18". I marked 17 spots for hooks, setting the first and last hooks in 1/2" from the corner, since you don't want them right on the edge.

Once marked, I drilled the holes for the hooks where I made my markings. I used a 7/64" drill bit to make way for 5/8" screws on the hooks. The size doesn't have to be precise, but you do want to use a slightly smaller bit than your screw so your screws can get some grip when you screw them in - otherwise they won't stay in.

I used pliers to screw in the hooks, which was way easier than doing it by hand. If I could do it again, I would definitely use larger hooks, or take the headbands with me to the hardware store to make sure the hooks I was getting were deep enough to fit more than one headband. Fortunately, if this becomes a real issue, I can easily remove the hooks and replace with larger ones at little cost or effort.

Once all my screws were in, I laid out my ribbon in the order in which I wanted to glue them to the frame. I calculated that I could fit 8 cuts of ribbon in the 14" frame if I spaced them 1 1/2" apart. I started the first and last ribbon 1" away from the outer lip of the frame since the inner lip was a little under 14" and made measuring and spacing much more complicated than a pretty half-number. That may be TMI to you, but it just took a long time for me to figure out how many ribbons I wanted, as well as how far to space them. Laying them out helped greatly with visualizing!

Above, you can see my markings. I started with a dot of hot glue over the mark, and pressed the ribbon to the corner of the lip. I waited a few seconds for the glue to begin to cool and hold the ribbon more firmly before covering the top of the end of ribbon with glue as well. I did this because I figured it would better hold the ribbon in place in case someone accidentally yanked a bow off. It is going in a child's room, after all...

The final result:

It's now up in Hannah's room, complete with bows... and a ton of headbands!

I love the way it turned out. The colors in her room are very neutral so I may eventually choose to move this to the closet and tone it down a bit, but for now, I really enjoy getting to see these pretty headbands on display!

{Hannah}: 23 weeks

So far, we have had an awesome 3-day weekend. Last night, we got to see a movie in a theatre (!) AND go see John Mark McMillan perform (best known for writing 'How He Loves'. All his other music isn't as well-known but is super amazing) since my parents kept Ethan. Those lucky ducks got him to sleep in until 8!!! We are enjoying how much of a sweet rhythm our life has now - we love our house and our yard, and we love to have people here. We even got to enjoy our yard today on July 4th without mosquitos! We found some spray that works well and came away with one single bite. Can I get an amen on that one??!

I can't believe I only have 4 weeks left in the 2nd trimester. This pregnancy is zooming by way more quickly than our first, and yet Hannah's Halloween due date still seems very far off! Her nursery is coming together (I really love it, I sit in there sometimes to relax), and ill post pictures when the bedding is done, since that's about all that we have left!

While my heartburn is managed, I still seem to have some reflux-related issues. Frequently, when I lay down to go to sleep, I get little gas bubbles in the asophogus which, to me, sound like a groan stick toy (link for reference: http://youtu.be/GdNJfbPnlQ8). Eventually I will sit up to get it out or just prop my head & shoulders up so it stops happening. While I know real discomfort is still on its way, this is just a little irritating, and it makes falling asleep that much more difficult.

This week, Hannah is the size of a bunch of grapes, and weighs over 1.25 lbs.

I would guess that my belly is a little larger than a bunch of grapes. ;) we all know there's a little more going on in there!

How far along? 23 weeks - 17 to go!
Maternity clothes? Yes!
Stretch marks? Not yet
Sleep: Would be better if I could get past these allergies. Nothing is helping, and I can't take much in the way of meds!
Miss anything? Being able to take medicine.
Movement: Frequently! But she's too low to share with anyone other than Austin.
Food cravings: Mexican food! We passed a La Madeline today, and wanted that too!
Anything making you queasy or sick? Just those weird gas-burp bubbles when I lay down!
Gender: Little girl!
Labor Signs: None
Belly Button in or out? In
Wedding rings on or off? On
Happy or Moody most of the time? Mostly happy but taking everything Austin says to heart. Not always good.
Looking forward to: Galveston with my family (parents, brothers, sister-in-law) in two weeks!
Prayers this week: Primarily continuing last week's prayer for discipline in me, so I can be a good example. Along those lines, praying for certain admirable personality traits for Hannah.
